CFFC hosted the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in Memory of Peter J. Lunn as the major fund raising event for the organization in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The tournament’s namesake was a basketball fan who lost his battle with cystic fibrosis in 2010. Rick Doherty and Kori Tolbert Doherty served as co-chairs of the tournament. Family, friends and the CF community provided the large cast of volunteers who made the tournament a success.
The tournament was introduced at a critical time for CFFC. The organization was running low on funds with no reliable revenue stream. In its three year run, the basketball tournament provided a much needed infusion of cash to not only continue our basic programs, but also allowed us to increase our outreach through this web site and taking over management of CF Education Day.
Ultimately, the stress of running the tournament became too much for the co-chairs – especially, the competition with their wedding planning in 2014. Also, the timing in relation to CFFC’s CF Education Day put a strain on our volunteer connections. So, we made the emotionally difficult decision to discontinue the basketball tournament. Fortunately, we have been able to develop other revenue streams to sustain our operations.
