Another Successful Tournament in the Books

Everyone involved would agree that the 2026 Living with CF Golf Tournament, held on September 12th, was successful. “Successful” is an adjective that can be applied to this year’s outing in several ways.

  • Let’s start with the golf. Some people enjoy golf under any conditions, but all golfers appreciate warm and sunny days. Mother Nature served up ideal conditions for our players. You get a sense of the weather in the video.
  • Course conditions are another element of success. Southern Meadows Golf Club was in great shape: beautifully green, freshly mowed, and just enough challenge for friendly competition. The video also gives you a glimpse of the course.
  • Operational success comes from the people who handle the various event tasks. And it seems all the helpers did double duty.
    • From Southern Meadows, Mike Clawson served as our host and official scorer. Bruce Bethmann and Rick Clawson handled the groundskeeping and meal service chores. Club mascot, Ruddy, also patrolled the tent to enforce the 5-second rule for any dropped food.
    • Volunteers Donna Germuga and Chris Mansfield (CFFC Directors) started the day at the check-in post then served as monitors for the chipping contest. After setting up the prize table, Karly Schuhart (CFFC President) and Leisha Cuddihy roamed the course taking pictures.
    • Tournament chair and awards emcee responsibilities were handled by Greg Smith (CFFC Secretary/Treasurer). In addition to keeping the chair sane, Sue Smith (CFFC co-founder) organized the check-in snacks.
  • The day was more than a pleasant round of golf. The Living with CF Golf Tournament is CFFC’s only fund-raising event. This year’s edition was certainly a success since we generated $4,400 to sustain our programs; particularly, the Emergency Fund and the Hospital Help Program.
  • Tournament sponsors play a key role in the financial success. Ten sponsors made cash donations, while five provided the items that filled up the prize table.
  • Of course, the players are the heart of a successful golf tournament. This year, 37 friends teed off (and finished): 33 veterans and 4 rookies. It seemed that everyone shared the same priorities: support for CFFC, having fun, eating great food and a little bit of competition.

A visual record of these elements of success are presented below.

The Prizes

Four prizes were based on performance in various contests around the course. [No one made a hole-in-one.] The rest of the prizes were picked by each player who got to visit the table based on the team’s final rank.
