Good Cause, Good Golf, Good Fun

Some people think “13” is unlucky; however, September 13 was a lucky day for CFFC and 44 supporters who showed up for the Living with CF Golf Tournament. It was a bit of serendipity that we fielded 11 teams in the 11th installment of the tournament – our biggest turnout yet. The temperature (and lack of precipitation) was perfect for golf. Although sunshine was a little scarce, the high spirits of the participation brightened the day.

It was a good day for our local CF community as well. When all the accounting was done, CFFC netted a bit over $3,000 to continue our programs. That’s also a new high for this event.

Fun was a primary goal but we kept score to determine the order in which the teams visited the prize table.

  • #1 – A score of 26 got Vince Perrone, Jon Eckler, Jeff Meehan and John Consul to the prizes first.
  • #2 – Brother Sam Perrone led his team of Paul Plant, Kollin Maxwell and Phill Crispino to the table as a reward for their 28.
  • T3 – Dan Sullivan, Jamie Romeo, Kirsten Shaw and Jim Fetzner shot a 29 and won tie breakers to go next.
  • T3 – 29 was also the score for the team with the youngest golfers: Tom Skavienski, Maddie Skavienski, Noah Skavienski and Kevin Wetmore.
  • T3 – Not to be outdone, Allan Mason, Paul Fitzpatrick, Jeff Goldberger and Aaron Huss also shot 29.
  • T3 – Another 29 was turned in by Gary Smith, Gene Tiesler, Carl Jutzin and Bob Greene.
  • #7 – The seventh trip went to David Fitzgerald, Nathan Dederick, Keith Kauffman and Luis Colon with a 30.
  • #8 – A 31 was scored by Terry Hine, Ian Anderson, Loryl Stahl and Bruce Oliver.
  • T9 – David Hicks, Patti Hicks, Jackie Goldberger and Sue Smith posted a 33.
  • T9 – Another 33 was turned in by Julie Maxon, Joan Updaw, Jeannie Steven-Myers and Greg Smith.
  • #11 – With generous sponsors, there will still prizes available for Doug Stewar, Julius Dorsey, Kevin Stewart and Eric Wallace for their 36.

Speaking of sponsors, we were graced by support in several categories:

  • P Gannon Fitzpatrick covered the cost of the gift bag given to each player (a sleeve of golf balls, tees and candy)
  • Marketview Liquer provided wine for the winners of the two closest-to-the-pin opportunities.
  •  Dan and Jane Sullivan insured hole-in-one prizes; sadly, none were earned.
  • Wright Distributing covered a putting contest but no one made the 65′ putt.
  • The prize table was stocked with donations from Wright Distributing, Wegmans, Morgan’s Crossing Golf Club and Allan Mason.
  • Hole sponsorships were provided by the Dwyer Family, Jeff and Jackie Goldberger, Kevin and Val Donovan, Kristen Shaw, Carl Jutzin, Jerry and Nancy DeFelice, and Matt McGraw.

Our gratitude also extends to our hosts at Southern Meadows

  • Mike Clawson – PGA Pro and official scorer
  • The grounds crew of Bruce Bethmann, Jim Smith and Larry Brown
  • A tasty lunch was served up by grill-master Bruce Bethmann with the rest of the buffet whipped up by Molly Quirk.

Thanks is also due to the tournament volunteers: Greg Smith (tournament chair), Tom Skavienski (team and prize wrangler), Donna Germuga (reception and putt observer), and Lisa and Tim Brady (set up and photos).

Thanks to all our golfers and other supporters. See you next year!
